Traveloka study finds that while cost is king for 45% of Singaporeans, 38% still prioritise urban escapes for comfort, with over half turning to digital tools for travel planning.

The June school holidays are upon us, and for many families in Singapore, that means one thing: it’s time to plan that long-awaited escape. Whether you’re craving a beach breeze, a cultural deep dive or just a breather from everyday routine, Traveloka’s latest APAC study offers useful insights into how Singaporeans are travelling in 2025—and how you can tailor your holiday plans to suit your family’s style.

Conducted by Traveloka in collaboration with YouGov, the study surveyed nearly 12,000 travellers across nine Asia-Pacific markets. Among the findings? Thirty-eight per cent of Singaporeans are prioritising rest and recharge, with urban escapes topping their wishlist. Meanwhile, 45% said affordability was their key travel concern, and more than half rely on digital tools for a smoother journey.

To make the most of the holidays, Traveloka has curated five holiday ideas based on different family travel personalities—from wellness lovers to deal-hunters. So, which type of traveller is your family?

The urban escape family

If your family thrives on city energy but still wants a bit of pampering, you’re in good company—urban escapes are the go-to for 38% of Singaporeans.

Try Tokyo, Japan
From high-energy Shibuya crossings to serene temples and Michelin-starred ramen, Tokyo delivers big on fun and variety. Visit Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, or explore quirky wonders like the Robot Restaurant and the interactive teamLab Planets museum. Between kimono dress-ups, manga cafes and scenic city walks, there’s never a dull moment. Pro tip: Stay near the Yurikamome Line for easy access to family-friendly Odaiba.

Try a Singapore staycation
Sometimes, a break doesn’t require a passport. Staycations in Singapore can be surprisingly revitalising. Consider splurging at Marina Bay Sands (rooftop infinity pool, anyone?), lounging at the greenery-filled PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, or booking into family-centric Village Hotel Sentosa. Expect plush beds, skyline views, and breakfast spreads that’ll have everyone waking up early.

The wellness and spa family

If your idea of a holiday involves deep breaths, detoxes and digital detoxes, your tribe may fall into the wellness family bracket.

Try The Farm at San Benito, Philippines
Just a few hours from Manila, this eco-luxury resort combines wellness with kid-friendly activities like nature trails and chocolate milk scrubs. Parents can enjoy plant-based meals and stress-relief therapies while little ones stay entertained and nourished.

Try Six Senses Yao Noi, Thailand
Perched between Phuket and Krabi, this tranquil island is all about balance—wellness for adults and eco-adventures for children. Think yoga with a sea view, Muay Thai fitness sessions, and sustainable learning through the “Grow with Six Senses” kids’ programme.

The affordability-first family

Got your eye on the budget? You’re not alone—45% of Singaporean families said cost is the biggest deciding factor when planning a trip.

Try Batam, Indonesia
A quick ferry ride away, Batam offers beach resorts, seafood feasts and spa sessions that won’t break the bank. Let the kids race go-karts while you enjoy a massage, or spend a quiet day at Elyora Beach, one of Batam’s lesser-known gems. For those who want beachfront bliss, Kiki Beach Island Resort is a top pick.

Try Desaru Coast, Johor
Just a short drive or ferry ride from Singapore, Desaru delivers sun, sea and savings. With attractions like Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast and family-friendly beach resorts, it’s an easy win for weekend warriors. Bonus points for visits to the Desaru Fruit Farm—an educational and tasty outing in one.

The culture-plus-nature family

If your ideal trip involves temple hopping and waterfall trekking, you’re likely in the growing group of families seeking immersive, meaningful travel experiences.

Try Luang Prabang, Laos
This UNESCO-listed gem is brimming with charm. Visit Wat Xiengthong, cruise the Mekong River to Pak Ou Caves, and watch the sunset from Phousi Hill. End the day at the night market where you’ll find intricate handmade textiles and artisanal treats. You can easily cover the highlights in one well-planned day tour.

Try Chiang Mai, Thailand
This Northern Thai city blends mountain cool with ancient culture. Visit temples, take a food tour, or drop by an ethical elephant sanctuary. For a slower pace, cycle the quiet roads of the Old City or wander the flower farms just beyond town. Evenings come alive at walking street markets with live music, handmade crafts and Thai street food.

The low-impact travel family

Sustainability is front-of-mind for many modern travellers, especially families wanting to travel more consciously while still enjoying comfort and adventure.

Try Song Saa Private Island, Cambodia
A peaceful, ultra-luxe getaway in the Koh Rong Archipelago, Song Saa is perfect for older children and couples seeking privacy and purpose. Participate in coral planting, community excursions, and enjoy a spa experience that honours local traditions and ingredients—all with a clear commitment to eco-luxury.

Try El Nido, Palawan, Philippines
This island paradise boasts limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons, and a commitment to low-impact tourism. Stay at Cauayan Island Resort for a high-end, earth-friendly experience, complete with marine life tours, spa therapies and private villa views that soothe the soul. You’ll leave with more than photos—you’ll come back renewed.
