Janice Wong invites guests to travel on a culinary journey to experience a taste of Japan with her second High Tea series, The Floating World Ukiyo, in collaboration with Ong Shunmugam.

Ong Shunmugam, a local designer known for her fashion, tableware and rattan work will showcase her collection of Suvarnabumi Porcelain, tableware that is lovingly built around the Asian dining table, cuisine and culinary rituals. Made in Arita, Japan, Janice Wong takes inspiration from the beauty of the porcelain and creates a modern sweet & salty culinary experience named “The floating world, Ukiyo 浮世”, which means “floating world” and describes the feeling of being present and mindful of the current moment, unbothered by stress.

Priced at S$60 per person, the menu features a playful take on Japanese and Asian flavours and techniques such as Miso pork and chicken dumplings wrapped like a candy bun in homemade red white skin. Other items in the menu include the Citrus Bergamot Yuzu Passionfruit Basil Tart, Strawberry Swiss Roll, Rose Chocolates, Soba Noodles, Peach Wagashi confectioneries and pillow soft fresh mochis.

“I have always admired Ong Shunmugam’s work, and it was an honour to partner with her for the next edition of our high tea series,” said Janice Wong.
“Following the success of our first set, The Cakes Of Versailles, I wanted to continue along the theme of travel and couldn’t think of a better way to showcase some of my favourite parts of Japan – the art and the food.”

The Floating World Ukiyo High Tea menu is available every weekend at 2am:dessertbar from 14 November through to 6 December 2020, with limited sets available each day.
Reservations can be made via 2am:dessertbar online.
