Looking for something different to do in Singapore this October? Whether you are hoping to kick-start a fitness routine, try a new physical challenge or simply enjoy a meaningful weekend with your loved ones, NEX has plenty happening this month. From 9 to 25 October 2026, the Serangoon shopping mall is introducing Your Fitness Playground, a community-focused initiative that brings together fitness challenges, wellness programmes and opportunities for people of different ages to stay active.

The activities include the NEXtreme Challenge, a beginner-friendly fitness experience, a special weekend dedicated to active ageing and a free six-session exercise programme by the Health Promotion Board (HPB). Shoppers can also look forward to lucky draw prizes worth more than S$10,000. Here is what you can expect at NEX this October.
Test your fitness at the NEXtreme Challenge
Dates:10, 11, 17 and 18 October 2026
Time:12pm to 5pm
Venue: Event Plaza, Basement 2
Ever wondered how you would fare in a fitness challenge? The NEXtreme Challenge offers an opportunity to find out without the pressure of a competitive sporting event. Participants can test their strength and endurance across four stations: Ski, Sled Push, Row and Farmer’s Carry. The activities are designed to be beginner-friendly, with coaches available to guide participants through each station.
The first weekend, 10 and 11 October, is reserved for NEXrewards members aged 55 and above, while the challenge opens to members aged 18 and above on 17 and 18 October. To participate, shoppers must spend at least S$20 in a single transaction at selected participating stores and scan their NEXrewards member QR. They can then visit the Level 1 Customer Service Counter near Paris Baguette on the same day to redeem an eCoupon and select their preferred challenge session. Each 15-minute session accommodates up to 15 participants, with slots allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Those who complete all four stations will receive a NEXtreme goodie bag containing a waterproof dry bag, quick-dry microfibre towel and sports water bottle, while stocks last. Remember to wear comfortable clothing and sports shoes!
Celebrate healthy ageing at Active Ager’s Day
Dates: 10 and 11 October 2026
Time: 10am to 8pm
Venue: Level 1 Atrium
Staying active is not only about physical fitness. It is also about maintaining social connections, supporting mental wellbeing and continuing to enjoy new experiences as we grow older.
On 10 and 11 October, NEX will host Active Ager’s Day @ NEX, organised by the Braddell Heights Grassroots Organisation and led by the Braddell Heights Active Ageing Committee. The event brings together government agencies, healthcare organisations and community partners, including the Ministry of Social and Family Development, Agency for Integrated Care, HPB and National Healthcare Group. Visitors can explore informative booths, discover community resources and learn more about maintaining an active and fulfilling lifestyle.

There will also be Taiji Rhythmball, music and dance performances, and presentations covering topics such as mental health. For those keen to participate, Sport Singapore’s Active Health Mobility Assessment Programme will offer a follow-along exercise session and try-out. Mental wellness will be another focus, with interactive activities such as Viriya Community Services’ Spot the Signs, Start the Conversation, the MindSmart Quiz Challenge: Myth or Fact? and Silver Ribbon Singapore’s Healthy Life, Healthy Mind quiz.
Caregivers can also benefit from a CareCompass sharing session exploring how the app can support caregiving needs, while a Legacy Planning Talk will provide practical insights into planning for the future. For families with older parents or grandparents, the event presents a convenient opportunity to spend time together while learning more about healthy ageing.
Build healthier habits with HPB’s free Start2Move programme
Dates: 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 October, and 7 November 2026
Time: 10am to 11am
Venue: Event Plaza, Basement 2
Starting a new fitness routine can feel intimidating, particularly if you have been inactive for some time. HPB’s Start2Move programme is designed to make that first step more approachable. Open to adults aged 18 and above, the free six-session programme introduces participants to essential exercise techniques and fitness fundamentals.
Throughout the programme, participants will explore upper and lower body strength exercises, balance, flexibility and aerobic fitness. They will also receive guidance on putting together their own workout routines. The final session includes a graduation and full-body workout, offering participants an opportunity to apply what they have learnt.
For anyone who has been meaning to exercise more regularly but is unsure where to begin, this programme could be a useful introduction to building sustainable fitness habits.

More than just a shopping destination
With Your Fitness Playground, NEX is creating opportunities for people to connect through movement, shared experiences and community activities. What makes the initiative particularly appealing is its inclusive approach. Fitness enthusiasts can take on a physical challenge, beginners can explore guided exercise sessions and older adults can discover resources and activities tailored to healthy ageing.
It is also a reminder that getting active does not necessarily require an expensive gym membership or an intensive workout. Sometimes, it begins with trying something new, discovering a community programme or simply finding the motivation to move more. Whether you are visiting NEX for a fitness challenge, accompanying your parents to Active Ager’s Day or enjoying a weekend shopping trip, there are plenty of reasons to get moving this October.
Your Fitness Playground runs at NEX from 9 to 25 October 2026, with selected Start2Move sessions extending until 7 November. Participation and redemption are subject to the respective programme requirements, availability and promotional terms.
