Kunal Sharma is a Mass Communication student and freelance photographer based out of Delhi. We asked him about what free India meant to him. His interpretation of a free India is a land where people are free to explore the rich cultural heritage through drama and theater. He shared some photographs captured by him during the eve of Sai Baba’s birthday. Sai Baba of Shirdi was an Indian spiritual master revered by Hindus as well as Muslims. He is regarded as a saint, a fakir, and a satguru by his devotees. He is considered to be an incarnation (avatar) of Lord Shiva by Hindu followers.
On the eve of this spiritual master’s birthday, processions (palki and jhanki ) are carried out with devotees dressed as various mythological figures. Kunal captured some of the best of this legendary folklore to express his interpretation of freedom. Take a look:
