This month, I am doing much better: Thank you, ‘Scarlet’!

Did you know that at least one in four women experiences distressing menstrual pain characterized by a need for medication and absenteeism from study or social activities every single month? And with everything that’s going on in the world lately, there have been many reports of increasing “period stress” that is affecting women’s cycles and overall menstrual health worldwide.

For me, period cramps and PMS symptoms are always horrible. But, when it comes to cramps, I try not to pop painkillers (anymore). Full disclosure: I used to pop 3-4 Ibuprofen tablets during one cycle when I was younger but now that I am 30 and probably a bit wiser, I find myself more inclined towards natural remedies.

That is why when I heard about The Scarlet Company‘s 100% natural menstrual health tonic ‘Scarlet’, I had to try it.

Month 1 with ‘Scarlet’: No more mood swings or pre-period cramps

Period cramps are mostly caused by a hormonal imbalance, which can start before the period commences and last for several days. The hypothalamus controls the output of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), which govern the menstrual cycle and are created in the pituitary gland. To help alleviate period cramps, fatigue and other painful symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), ‘Scarlet’ claims to regulate the pituitary gland to help balance female hormones.

To be honest, knowing how crazy my hormones can be, I was a bit sceptical at first but the “100% natural” bit encouraged me to give the tonic a try.

Please note that this is my first month of trying ‘Scarlet’ and they recommend taking the tonic for three to six months for best results.

So, after eight bottles of ‘Scarlet’ (I know a bottle a day for 8 days might sound intimidating but they are cute little 70 ml pink bottles with an orange-ish tarty juice type drink, so don’t worry) I feel better.

The best thing so far for me has been that my mood swings are almost gone. Generally, I cry at the drop of a hat (this has happened before, literally), get annoyed at table cloths and crave chocolate at 3 am. This month, however, my mood swings are in check and I am sleeping better.

Cramps wise, day 2 of my period was fine but days 1 and 3 were bad. However, I don’t blame ‘Scarlet’ for that– I think it’ll improve as I continue the intake for a couple more months. Today, ie, day 4, I feel much better.

The great thing is that I did not have terrible cramps before my periods started (normally, I die, get tortured in hell for half a night and then I am sent back to earth to suffer further)– so that was a significant win.

Here’s why I will continue my ‘Scarlet’ subscription

‘Scarlet’, 100% natural menstrual tonic, is certified food-safe (ISO 22000), Halal-certified, Vegan and gluten-free. ‘Scarlet’ is manufactured here in Singapore, using the finest ingredients sourced globally — Chasteberry from the Mediterranean and Southern Europe regions, and Wild Yam from North America.

Chasteberry naturally stimulates and normalizes the pituitary gland, which regulates the balance of estrogen and progesterone in the body helping with the overall menstrual health. In a study involving over 178 women aged 18 years or older diagnosed with PMS, more than half the women taking Chasteberry experienced a substantial (>50%) decrease in overall symptoms.

Wild yam (Dioscorea) is a plant that is indigenous to the Americas. Aztecs and Mayans used this herb as an effective remedy against menstrual and labour pains. Today, it is widely used by herbalists as an antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory herb. It is also known to help with nausea and improve overall female wellness.

With a combination of other natural ingredients including calcium, magnesium, vitamins D, E, B6 and B12, which are known to be effective in relieving the symptoms of PMS, ‘Scarlet’ helps fight against symptoms like mood swings, bloating, acne and anxiety. It also helps regulate the flow.

Now, I know that I did not discuss my flow in this review. That is because I need at least one more month of trial before I can comment on that.

Overall, I am thankful for ‘Scarlet’ as the results are promising so far and I definitely recommend it to all my bleeding female readers. There are no side effects and it is delivered at your doorstep!

Priced at S$69.90 per box (box of 8 bottles), ‘Scarlet’ subscription is now available for online purchase with free shipping in Singapore. The process is simple: log on to their website, mention your next period date and complete your subscription. A box of 8 Scarlet tonics will be delivered to your doorstep ten days before your period is due each month.
