Sunshine, smiles and school spirit at the AIS Family Fun Fest

There’s something about the sound of laughter echoing across a school field that never fails to lift your mood. This September, the Australian International School (AIS) campus came alive with the cheerful buzz of families, students and teachers gathering for its much-anticipated AIS x ANZA Family Fun Fest. The annual community picnic, organised in partnership with the Australian and New Zealand Association (ANZA), once again proved why AIS is more than just a school, it’s a family.

A celebration of connection

More than 700 attendees turned up on a breezy Saturday afternoon, transforming the school grounds into a vibrant festival of colour and camaraderie. There was something for everyone- from delicious food stalls and carnival-style games to spectacular live entertainment and, of course, the crowd-favourite bouncy castles that kept the little ones happily busy.

Head of School Karrie Dietz summed up the spirit of the day perfectly:

“The AIS experience isn’t just about academic excellence; it also includes the holistic development of our students. The warmth and exuberance of our wider community is the secret sauce that makes AIS such a wonderful school to send your kids to. At AIS, we embrace the entire family.”

From open house to open hearts

The Family Fun Fest followed the school’s Open House, where parents and prospective students explored the campus and learned about AIS’s diverse academic pathways. The school offers a choice of curricula, including the Australian CurriculumCambridge IGCSEIB Diploma Programme (IBDP), and Higher School Certificate (HSC), ensuring a personalised learning experience for students from over 50 nationalities.

The picnic was the perfect way to round off the day’s campus tour. New families mingled with current ones, and visitors got a first-hand feel of the welcoming atmosphere that defines the school. The event’s timing, right after a day of exploring classrooms and learning philosophies, created a seamless transition from education to experience.

A taste of home and belonging

Among the special guests was Allaster Edward Cox, the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, who praised the school’s dedication to both academic quality and community warmth.

“For Australian families considering a move to Singapore, AIS would be an outstanding choice. The warm and welcoming community spirit on display at today’s picnic has been a wonderful introduction, showcasing the very best of Australian values and hospitality.”

But what truly stood out was how multicultural the gathering felt. Families from diverse backgrounds came together, bonded over games and shared laughter, and reflected the inclusive environment AIS prides itself on.

Jasmine R, a parent advocate, shared:

“Being part of such a multicultural school community has been incredible for my children. The IB programme in the early years strikes a great balance between academics and hands-on experiences. My kids are thriving, both personally and academically.”

More than a school, its a community

Beyond the festivities, the AIS Picnic captured something deeper- a sense of belonging. It reminded everyone that education is not just about books or grades, but about connection, empathy, and shared joy. Whether it was students showing their parents around their classrooms, teachers chatting with families, or new visitors simply soaking in the positive energy, there was a sense that everyone was part of something special.

As the afternoon sun dipped below the horizon, families packed up their picnic mats with full hearts (and bellies), waving goodbye to newfound friends. The AIS Family Fun Fest once again highlighted how the school’s emphasis on community spirit and holistic growth continues to shape its students and its future.
