Deconstructing skincare with Dr Eileen Lee, the founder of SKINCOMM®

0 0

The founder of SKINCOMM®, Dr Eileen Lee, has more than 30 years of expertise in the beauty, skincare, and wellness industries. She knows how challenging it can be to find skincare products that are easy to use, safe, and effective. She and her team of researchers and scientists worked tirelessly over the course of three years to develop the SKINCOMM® UNICEL System, driven by their personal needs as well as those of many others around them.

We spoke with Dr Lee to deconstruct skincare, its importance in the 21st century and more.

TVM: In three decades of experience in skincare, how have you seen the industry evolve? What are some of the most significant changes you see today?

Dr Lee: The industry has evolved quite a lot, especially since consumers’ behaviour has changed drastically. They are now more well-read, tech-savvy and affluent and spoiled with choices, therefore, they are more demanding and careful before making a choice.

TVM: Why is it even more important to have a dedicated skincare routine now than ever?

Dr Lee: Today, we are even more exposed to environmental aggressors, especially electronic devices (mobile phones, tablets, computers, conventional ovens, cooking fires and etc.) which are emitting harmless rays like blue lights and infrared rays. As such, it is extremely important to have a dedicated skincare routine and remain consistent.

TVM: Tell us more about the story behind SKINCOMM®. How was the brand born?

Dr Lee: With my 30 years of experience and knowing the pain points of many friends and consumers, finding the right skincare products which are simple to use and safe, yet efficacious was a challenge. My philosophy is, if we cannot find it, we create our own. That’s how I started having this ambitious idea of creating a One&All Skincare Product Range suitable for all skin types and targeted to treat common skin problems at once.

With this idea, I went to my partners and started conceptualising the important factors based on three core ideas:

  • Multi-functional products target multiple skin woes with a few simple steps to achieve the desired efficacy.
  • A Clean formulation, free of paraben, fragrances, kojic acid, etc and most importantly safe for prolonged usage
  • To achieve healthy, youthful and near-flawless skin based on Skin Anatomy & Physiology at the cellular level. These formulations must be clinically tested and proven by a third-party lab on the efficacious claims. Not just plug from the air, so that we can shout it out loud.

TVM: Can you share more on the R&D that goes behind SKINCOMM® products?

Dr Lee: We took almost 3 years to get the formulations right because it was a challenge initially when I started working with our team of medical doctors, chemists, scientists and specialists on this project.  The main question we were looking to find the answer to was, is it possible to have different groups of key active ingredients put together? It can be either synergistic or antagonistic, considering the safety and efficacy part as well. The efforts paid off when we received the clinical trials & studies reports. We were over the moon. I told many of my stakeholders that I felt a sense of achievement as if my child had been awarded the president’s scholarship.

TVM: What makes SKINCOMM® stand out in this heavily crowded market?

Dr Lee: Consumers no longer just listen to what you say, they look at data. So, here it is:

  • 1. Clean formulation – safety assessment and patch test done by an external lab and labelled Dermatologically Tested.
  • 2. 54% pro-collagen synthesis in 72 hours
  • 3. 429% elastin production in 72
  • 4. more than 58% reduction in melanin in 21 days

We have not known of any other brands that have come close to us on the above.

TVM: As a successful businesswoman, please share with our female readers your thoughts on why self-care is important for women from all walks of life and at all ages.

Dr Lee: Self-care is important because it allows them to maintain not just their physical but emotional and mental well-being.  Self-care is not a luxury, but a necessity for women of all ages and backgrounds. It is essential for helping women to lead happier, more confident and fulfilling lives.
