Sunshine Bakeries Launches New Dorayaki Range in Singapore With Four Flavours to Try

If there is one thing we have learnt from having a five-year-old at home, it is that a snack can disappear remarkably quickly when it gets her seal of approval. We recently got to try Sunshine Bakeries’ new Dorayaki range and our daughter was an immediate fan. Soft pancakes, a sweet filling in the middle and a size that is easy for little hands to manage? Unsurprisingly, these did not last very long in our house.

But beyond our resident junior taste-tester’s enthusiasm, Sunshine’s latest launch is an interesting new addition to Singapore’s ever-growing Japanese snack selection.

Sunshine Bakeries Dorayaki range is now available in Singapore

Sunshine Bakeries has introduced its first Dorayaki range in Singapore, with four flavours now available islandwide: Uji Matcha, Azuki Red Bean, Cheese and Taro. For anyone unfamiliar with dorayaki, the Japanese snack traditionally consists of two small pancake-like cakes with a filling sandwiched between them. Sunshine’s version uses soft, fluffy pancakes made with premium Hokkaido milk, paired with a flavoured filling in the centre.

They are also individually packed, which makes them particularly convenient for school bags, office snack drawers, picnics or those afternoons when you need something small and sweet without committing to an entire dessert.

Four flavours, depending on what you are craving

The range gives you a mix of familiar Japanese flavours and slightly more unexpected options. Uji Matcha pairs the Hokkaido milk pancake with an earthy matcha filling. Sunshine suggests having it with chilled black coffee, with the bitterness of the coffee balancing the sweeter matcha notes. Azuki Red Bean is probably the closest to the classic dorayaki experience. The soft pancakes come with a smooth red bean filling and Sunshine recommends pairing it with warm hojicha.

If you lean towards sweet-savoury combinations, Cheese might be the one to pick. It has a creamy cheese filling with a lightly savoury finish, with iced yuzu green tea suggested as a refreshing accompaniment. And then there is Taro, which goes firmly into dessert territory with a rich taro filling. The suggested pairing is suitably indulgent too: taro or brown sugar milk tea. The different flavours also make the range quite fun for families. Rather than buying an entire box of one flavour and discovering nobody agrees on it, everyone can simply pick their own.

Designed for the little pauses in the day

Sunshine is positioning the Dorayaki range around the Japanese phrase “Hotto, Hito Yasumi!”, translated in the release as “take a little moment”. The idea is essentially to turn the snack into a small pause in the middle of an otherwise busy day, whether that is during a work break, inside a lunchbox or alongside a cup of tea.
It is a simple concept but one that makes sense for the way many of us snack. Not everything needs to be a café trip or elaborate dessert outing. Sometimes you really just want something easy to pull out of the cupboard when the 3pm craving hits.

According to Sunshine Bakeries, the launch also reflects the growing popularity of Japanese flavours and snacking culture among consumers in Singapore. The company has taken the familiar dorayaki format and adapted it using the soft, fluffy baking style it is already known for, with Hokkaido milk used to give the pancakes a richer, delicate texture.

Sunshine itself has been part of Singapore’s food landscape for decades. The bakery traces its beginnings to a small shophouse bakery in Geylang in 1930 and has since become known for everything from its white and wholemeal bread to buns, rolls and other baked products.

Where to find Sunshine Dorayaki in Singapore

Sunshine Dorayaki launched islandwide on 21 August 2026 and is priced at S$2.00 each. The range is available at major supermarkets, hypermarkets and convenience stores across Singapore. At that price and with each dorayaki individually wrapped, they are an easy option to pick up if you are curious about Japanese-style snacks, want something convenient for the kids or simply feel like making your afternoon tea break a little more interesting. And if our daughter gets to choose? We suspect we will be keeping a few within easy reach.
