Geneco’s #VoyageToProsperity: Nurturing marine conservation through innovation and collaboration

Nurturing marine conservation through innovation and collaboration can be the best way to celebrate the year of the Dragon!

This Chinese New Year, Geneco, a leading energy provider, is set to embark on a meaningful #VoyageToProsperity, weaving together education, sustainability, and environmental awareness to champion the conservation of Singapore’s coral reefs and marine life.

In a unique collaboration with Marshall Cavendish Education (MCE), Geneco introduces a game-changing initiative aimed at fostering environmental consciousness among Singaporeans, while also contributing to the preservation of marine biodiversity.

Educational gaming for marine conservation

Teaming up with MCE, Geneco has co-created the “Voyage To Prosperity Game,” a delightful and interactive experience developed during MCE’s Summer Coding Hackathon 2023. The game, centred around the theme “Code the Ocean,” aims to instil a sense of responsibility and awareness from a young age, encouraging children aged 9 to 12 to become stewards of Singapore’s precious marine ecosystems. Every gameplay brings Geneco closer to its goal of donating $10,000 to Garden City Fund’s Plant-A-Coral, Seed-A-Reef Programme, showcasing the company’s commitment to marine conservation.

Yeoh Cheng Poh, Head of Marshall Cavendish Education, expresses excitement about using technology to educate and inspire young learners on the importance of preserving Singapore’s coral and marine life. The Voyage To Prosperity Game aligns with MCE’s vision of nurturing the joy of learning, providing a fun and interactive experience for young minds.

Coral-inspired red packets for marine conservation

Geneco’s commitment to marine conservation extends to its visually stunning 2024 Chinese New Year red packets. Symbolizing the rich diversity of local coral and marine life, the pink and blue-hued packets feature captivating designs of corals and fishes, adorned with gold detailing. These “Rainforests of the Sea” red packets not only serve as festive essentials but also act as educational tools, with lesser-known facts about Singapore’s coral reefs integrated into their design.

Prominent local artists and key opinion leaders, including Felicia Chin, Hong Ling, and Jesseca Liu, are throwing their support behind Geneco’s initiative. Their engagement on social media platforms aims to drive awareness and participation in the various activities lined up for the festive season.

Expanding recycling initiatives

Geneco’s commitment to sustainability takes centre stage with the expansion of its annual Used Red Packet Recycling initiative. Partnering with new entities such as CapitaLand malls, PAP Town Councils, and SG Recycle, Geneco aims to surpass previous years’ achievements and collect even more used red packets. SG Recycle will repurpose the collected packets into recycled paper products, contributing to Singapore’s journey towards a zero-waste future.

CapitaLand malls and PAP Town Councils are actively supporting the recycling effort by hosting Geneco recycling bins across the island, making it more convenient for the public to participate. With over 90 bins available at various locations, including heartland areas, Geneco is making it easier for everyone to contribute to the cause.

Engaging the community

To bring the #VoyageToProsperity campaign to the forefront, Geneco is hosting a pop-up event at Tampines Mall’s Atrium Concourse from January 31st to February 6th. Attendees will not only have the chance to win eCapitaVouchers through the Voyage To Prosperity Game but can also receive exclusive Geneco reusable straws and limited edition red packets.

To deepen internal involvement, Geneco is organizing staff tours as part of Garden City Fund’s Plant-A-Coral, Seed-A-Reef programme. These tours provide employees with immersive experiences, fostering a connection with marine conservation efforts firsthand.

Empowering change for a sustainable future

“At Geneco, the #VoyageToProsperity campaign represents our ongoing commitment not just to foster change, but to empower the community from a young age,” says Alex Chan, Head of Brand, Communications, and Marketing at Geneco. “It’s about nurturing a connection between individuals and preserving our marine life through education, engagement, and collaborative efforts.”

As Singaporeans gear up to celebrate the Chinese New Year, Geneco’s #VoyageToProsperity stands as a shining example of how corporate initiatives can be a force for positive change, inspiring a collective effort to protect and preserve the vibrant marine life that surrounds the island nation.
