Masks have become an integral part of our lives amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. With fashion stores and retailers rolling out ranges of masks, it can be difficult to choose. However, we must remember that the point of masks is safety, and when it comes to that Yappie’s Copper Mask is arguably your best bet.

Yappie recently announced that their Copperline Mask has been independently verified as the first and only face mask in the world to kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease.

The Copperline Mask uses copper as part of a patented ionised copper yarn knitted fabric that actively eliminates bacteria and viruses. Researchers at Jeonbuk National University in South Korea, the biggest microbiology research institute in Asia, have verified that this patented technology renders SARS-CoV-2 inactive and terminates the replication of the virus’ ribonucleic acid (RNA), preventing the spread of COVID-19.

“While the Copperline Mask was already class-leading in every category, we’re pleased to share that it has now been verified to kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus by Jeonbuk National University,” said Ms Yap, Yappie’s Managing Director.

“Even as researchers globally have been working relentlessly to develop a safe and effective vaccine, the date that it will be commercially available is still uncertain. Nonetheless, coupled with observing best practices such as hand washing and social distancing, we believe this news will allow all wearers of the Copperline Mask to have peace-of-mind when they head out of their homes be it for work or leisure. With its patented design that delivers uncompromised safety, comfort, and sustainability, the Copperline Mask is truly the best everyday face mask for Singaporeans.”

Scientifically proven: It kills the virus

In their tests, researchers were able to verify through an Immunofluorescence Assay that the viral proteins in the cells of the SARS-CoV-2 virus were virtually undetectable 30 minutes after being treated with the 3-dimensional, triple-layered ionised copper yarn fabric mask. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests also confirm that contact with the ionised copper yarn leads to a significant decline in the relative expression of SARS-CoV-2.

“The tests conclude that copper can quickly and effectively render the SARS-CoV-2 virus inactive, inhibit the replication of its RNA, and reduce the infectivity of the virus. It can bind and disorder helical structures and breach the integrity of the virus’ plasma membrane, thus killing the virus. In short, copper is an essential and powerful tool in slowing the spread of COVID-19.” said Dr. John Hwa Lee, Jeonbuk National University.

“The [Copperline Mask] enhances the virucidal activity of COVID-19 even higher. Due to its increased surface area, the mask improves this microbicidal action via the interaction of copper ions with [SARS-CoV-2] virions that are entrapped in the mask or come into contact with the copper-impregnated outer surfaces of the mask.”

Prevents build-up of bad odour and reduces pressure on ears

With its patented ionised copper triple-layer knitted fabric, the Copperline Mask has antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiviral properties and provides protection from harmful UV rays while allowing far-infrared emission to improve blood circulation and promote healthy skin. The mask’s self-sterilising functionality eliminates 80% of odours within 30 minutes, preventing the build-up of bad odour.

Designed to be worn all-day without irritation, the Copperline Mask’s ergonomic, 3-dimensional shape naturally tapers over the chin and reduces pressure on the user’s ears, with an Air-Zone between the user’s face and mask providing maximum breathability. The mask is also designed for users with sensitive skin, reducing acne build-up and allergic skin reactions commonly seen when wearing disposable masks with a melt-blown non-woven membrane.

With 4 different sizes and 9 different colours, the Copperline Mask allows users to find a supremely comfortable and fashionable fit without compromising on their safety during this new norm.

A sustainable choice

The Copperline Mask was designed to reduce the waste created by disposable face masks. It is reusable and washable, certified to perform its antibacterial functions even after 30 washes with no excessive degenerative effect and tested to be functional even after 3 months of use.

An optional High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter can also be added for increased protection to the Copperline Mask, transforming it into personal protective equipment (PPE) in areas of higher risk and times of poor air quality such as the haze. This filter is removable and replaceable, preventing landfills from being filled with single-use face masks.

With these achievements in sustainability, the Copperline Mask has been certified as a Green Technology Product by the Korean Government’s Ministry of Health.

Several companies have adopted the use of the Copperline Mask as part of its operations. They include Medtronic, the world’s largest medical equipment manufacturer, and POSCO, a steel manufacturer from South Korea.

Availability

The Copperline Mask is available for purchase at Singapore Airlines’ KrisShop and Lazada Redmart for $45.90.

KrisFlyer members can also utilise their miles to purchase a Copperline Mask.
