Earlier this week, I was invited to the exclusive media preview of the new Singapore Oceanarium at Resorts World Sentosa and what a stunning, soul-soothing experience it was. From the moment I stepped into the space, it felt like entering an underwater dream where every ripple and reflection told a story. There’s something powerfully meditative about being surrounded by ocean life moving gently, existing quietly, especially in a space so intentionally designed to foster both wonder and responsibility.
Reopening to the public on 24 July 2025, the Oceanarium isn’t just back, it’s reborn. With over 100,000 marine animals across 250 species, the new space combines science, storytelling and sustainability across 22 immersive zones. Every corner is crafted to inspire not just awe, but action asking us to care, to connect and to become stewards of the ocean.
Ocean zones at Singapore Oceanarium that moved, mesmerised and made us think
Our journey began in the Ocean Wonders zone, where thousands of moon jellies drifted in one of the world’s largest Kreisel habitats. The ambient lighting and sound wrapped us in a trance-like calm and we couldn’t look away. My little one was especially taken by the glowing Atlantic Sea Nettles and the quirky fried egg jellies, the entire experience was like stepping into a living artwork, constantly shifting and flowing.
From there, we travelled back in time at Ancient Waters, a zone that blends prehistoric storytelling with modern science. Towering animatronics of creatures like the Dunkleosteus loomed over us, while real-life remnants such as the Australian Lungfish and Arapaima reminded us that evolution is still very much in motion. Fossils and digital interactions kept this space engaging for all ages.
As someone who appreciates local stories, Singapore’s Coast really struck a chord. This quiet mangrove-inspired space shines a light on the incredible biodiversity that thrives along our shorelines. With species like the Archerfish and Barred Mudskipper swimming gracefully in live tanks and seahorses projected onto the rockwork, it was a beautiful reminder of the marine life we coexist with, right here in Singapore.
Things took a dramatic turn, visually and emotionally, when we entered Whale Fall and Seamount. A life-sized whale skeleton anchored the room, brought to life through projection mapping that illustrated how even in death, a whale brings life to countless others. Surrounded by deep-sea creatures like Japanese Isopods and Australian Ghostsharks, the atmosphere was haunting and powerful, a true depiction of the ocean’s quiet resilience.
Discovery zones that invite play, awe and connection
Of all the zones, Discovery Pool was hands-down our favourite. This hands-on area lets guests of all ages interact gently with marine creatures like starfish and sea cucumbers. It was a moment of pure joy, my daughter went from cautious observer to curious explorer in minutes. The marine guides were kind, engaging and turned every interaction into a learning moment. We lingered here the longest, it’s a space of joy and quiet bonding that’s hard to replicate.
Right after, we stepped into the Spirit of Exploration. Anchored by the Jewel of Muscat, a reconstructed 9th-century dhow ship, this zone had a wonderful mix of history and play. The highlight here was Pier Adventure, a suspended web walk that gave us an aerial view of the ship and exhibit below. It was equal parts thrilling and educational, topped off with themed treats from the nearby Explorer’s Nook café.
These aren’t just attractions, they’re story-driven spaces built to stir reflection, conversation and care.
Programmes and promos that extend the experience
From 25 to 27 July, the Oceanarium is hosting Research & Learning Week, featuring expert-led talks and workshops. One highlight is the Living Oceans Exhibition, developed in partnership with NUS and SDC, which showcases marine biodiversity through specimens and real research.
Another visual gem is Ties That Bind, a moving photo exhibition by Singaporean photographers Toh Xing Jie and Michael Aw. Positioned within the Spirit of Exploration zone, it tells powerful stories of resilience and connection through the lens of marine life.
There are also deeper experiences for those looking to go behind the scenes. The Singapore Oceanarium Insider Experience offers educator-led access to the oceanarium’s operations, while spotlight sessions on Sea Jellies and Coralsshowcase how aquarists breed and care for these delicate species. Families will also love the Fossilist Workshop, where participants can excavate and take home their own fossil.
Ticket prices start from S$50 for adults and S$39 for children and seniors, with special rates for Singapore residents. From now until 23 July, every admission ticket includes a free collectible marine animal plush blind-box, perfect for kids and collectors alike. Visitors who download the Singapore Oceanarium app will also unlock priority lane access and free entry to Pier Adventure (worth S$10).
More than an aquarium, it’s an invitation to care
The new Singapore Oceanarium is not just a revamped attraction, it’s an immersive, emotional and beautifully designed marine storytelling experience. Whether you’re there for the jellyfish, the fossil digs, the dhow ship or simply to share quiet joy with your family at the Discovery Pool, you leave feeling changed, just a little more curious, a little more compassionate.
It’s the kind of space that makes you pause, look closer and start to wonder what role you can play in protecting the world beneath the waves.
