Ocean at Alliance Française is one thing you cannot miss, especially if your kids love all things ocean
When I heard that a world-class marine exhibition from Paris had made its way to Singapore, I knew we had to dive right in—literally. So on opening day, little Divisha and I made our way to Alliance Française de Singapour for the media preview of OCEAN: Diving into the Unknown, and trust me, it was an unforgettable underwater journey—without even getting wet!
From the moment we stepped in, it was like being transported to the bottom of the sea. This isn’t your average science exhibit—it’s an immersive, storytelling-rich experience that combines mythology, marine science, photography, and climate action in the most magical way.
Mythical legends and deep-sea dreams at Ocean at Alliance Française
The first part of the exhibition sweeps you into the world of French literature and ocean myths. We met sea monsters, shipwrecks, and mermaid tales that once fuelled the imaginations of France’s greatest writers. Divisha was wide-eyed, asking if sea dragons were real—and honestly, I didn’t want to ruin the magic.
Exploring ocean tech and daring discoveries
Next, we found ourselves face to face with the tools and tech that made deep-sea exploration possible. From old-school diving helmets to sleek submersibles, this section pays tribute to the pioneering spirit of French oceanographers. It was a great way to show kids (and grown-ups!) that science is as much about courage as it is about curiosity.
Wonders of the deep
One of our favourite zones? The Wonders Underneath. It was bursting with vivid displays of coral reefs, jellyfish, and bioluminescent creatures. There’s even a VR experience that lets you “dive” beneath the surface—so real, we almost forgot we were in a gallery. Divisha walked away knowing more marine species than I did at her age!
A treasure to protect
The final zone got real. It talks about climate change, ocean pollution, and how all this beauty is at risk. But instead of being heavy-handed, it leaves you inspired to act. I loved how they explained big issues in ways even a 4-year-old could understand. Divisha came home talking about how we need to “keep the fish safe and the plastic away”—proud mum moment unlocked.
Bonus: Underwater photo art + coral cause
Don’t miss the Ocean Grace underwater photography showcase by Monaco-based duo Phoctopus. The photos are breathtaking, and proceeds go towards the 100k Corals Initiative—Singapore’s biggest coral restoration project. Art for a cause? Yes, please.
