Alliance Française de Singapour and The Vent Machine have had a long-standing relationship. My love for art has drawn me to Alliance Française de Singapour multiple times for their splendid exhibitions, and this time too it was as special as ever!

As a child, I was enamoured with the whimsical tale of “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint Exupéry. So when I received an invitation to explore an exhibition celebrating the author’s legacy, I knew I had to be there. Little did I know, this exhibition would offer a profound journey through the life and works of the literary legend himself.

The Alliance Française de Singapour proudly presents “Antoine de Saint Exupéry: When a Prince takes Flight,” a unique exhibition held as part of the vOilah! 2024 France Singapore Festival. Running from May 3rd to July 31st, 2024, this showcase marks the 80th anniversary of Saint Exupéry’s disappearance, offering a rare opportunity to delve into his world through original artefacts loaned by the Saint Exupéry Foundation.

“I am honoured to be part of this extraordinary event,” expressed Olivier d’Agay, Secretary General of The Antoine De Saint Exupéry Youth Foundation. “To share his timeless wisdom and enchanting narratives with the vibrant community in Singapore is not just a privilege but a heartfelt duty.”

Divided into three thematic sections – Adventurer, Writer, and WWII Hero – the exhibition unveils the multifaceted life of Saint Exupéry. From his daring adventures as a pilot to his profound insights as a writer, each aspect is intricately woven into the narrative of “The Little Prince,” a tale cherished by readers worldwide.

The Alliance Française de Singapour will take you on a journey to remember

The journey begins with a glimpse into Saint Exupéry’s roots, with family portraits and timelines adorning the walls. Visitors are invited to embark on a treasure hunt of sorts, uncovering rare artefacts like the engraved name bracelet discovered at sea, a poignant reminder of the author’s tragic fate.

But the exhibition doesn’t merely dwell on the past; it invites guests to immerse themselves in Saint Exupéry’s world through innovative experiences. From virtual reality simulations of flying a plane to workshops on creative pursuits like sand drawing and wooden plane building, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Fabian Forni, Executive Director of Alliance Française de Singapour, emphasized the significance of the exhibition, especially its closing date on July 31st, commemorating the end of World War II. “This makes the exhibition truly remarkable in honouring his legacy,” he remarked.
