I recently had the privilege of attending the media preview for Luzerne’s SG60 Diamond Collection, and left not just inspired, but deeply moved. There’s something incredibly special about hearing a story straight from the heart and Luzerne’s tribute to Singapore’s 60th year of independence is as heartfelt as it gets.
The event was a celebration of craftsmanship, heritage and compassion. Amidst beautiful porcelain centrepieces and deeply personal anecdotes, we were introduced to a collection that goes beyond artistry. It tells the Singapore story through hand-painted ceramic pieces, while shining a much-needed light on mental health advocacy.
To mark Singapore’s 60 years of independence, Luzerne — a proud Made with Passion tableware brand — unveiled the SG60 Diamond Collection, a stunning commemorative range of handcrafted ceramic plates and cups. Created in collaboration with Singaporean artist and award-winning watercolourist Associate Professor Ng Woon Lam, the collection captures iconic moments from each decade of the nation’s growth.
Every brushstroke in the collection reflects Professor Ng’s signature blend of Chinese calligraphy and watercolour, brought to life through the lens of Taiji — a philosophy rooted in balance and harmony. As someone who has lived through Singapore’s transformation, his works evoke the spirit, pride and resilience of the people who shaped this island nation.
A heartfelt initiative with a powerful mission
At the heart of this project lies a noble cause. Luzerne has pledged to donate all 60 pieces of the 50cm SG60 Diamond Plates — the crown jewel of the collection — to various charities. The goal: to raise SGD 600,000 in support of mental health awareness and support services.
As Luzerne CEO Elaine Lek shared during the preview, this initiative is deeply personal. Elaine, who co-founded the PleaseStay. Movement for youth mental health and suicide prevention, spoke candidly about the need to foster open, compassionate dialogue. Her words were a powerful reminder that mental health challenges often go unseen — but through art, conversation and community, stigma can be broken.
“Speaking up on youth mental health has never been a choice – it is a responsibility I carry,” said Elaine. “As Singapore continues to progress, rapid change is inevitable. With Luzerne’s humble contribution to SG60, I hope to show support for those navigating societal pressures or identity challenges amid these shifts.”
From collectors’ art to charitable impact
The SG60 Diamond Plate features all six signature designs in a single striking collage — each motif representing a decade of Singapore’s journey. These exclusive 50cm plates are not for sale in stores. Instead, they will be distributed to over 20 social service agencies for fundraising efforts. Additionally, 10 plates will be offered through a collaboration with Community Chest Singapore (ComChest).
Donors can participate in the fundraising campaign by visiting www.luzerne.com/sg60, where a minimum donation of SGD 2,688 secures a chance to receive one of the ten serialised plates. Each plate will come in a premium gift box with a custom-made stand — a collectible keepsake for a meaningful cause.
All proceeds from the ComChest initiative will benefit the President’s Challenge, The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund, Samaritans of Singapore, and Limitless Singapore — organisations working tirelessly to support mental wellbeing across the nation.
A story 75 years in the making
Luzerne’s own journey mirrors the spirit of Singapore. With more than 75 years of heritage, the brand has evolved into a globally respected tableware company, trusted by airlines, hotels and restaurants in over 66 countries. Luzerne products are lovingly crafted by over 800 artisans at its own factory in Dehua, China — the birthplace of Blanc de Chine and a UNESCO-recognised porcelain city.
True to its values, Luzerne is committed to sustainability and innovation. Its entire range is bone ash-free, reflecting its stance against animal byproducts in tableware manufacturing — a rarity in its industry.
But what sets Luzerne apart isn’t just its craftsmanship. It’s the heart behind the brand. Through this SG60 initiative, Luzerne is using art not just to celebrate a nation’s milestones, but to support the mental resilience of its people — echoing a simple yet powerful truth: we rise stronger, together.
