Discover how a well-planned family day in Sentosa can turn the June holidays into a tropical escape—without ever leaving Singapore.
If you’re a parent in Singapore, you’ve probably heard it before—“There’s nothing to do here” or “Singapore is so small.” And truth be told, it can feel that way when school holidays roll around and you’re trying to juggle work, heatwaves, and restless kids. But here’s the thing: with a little planning and a sense of adventure, even a single day in Sentosa can turn into a mini vacation that the whole family remembers.
That’s exactly what we set out to do this June—escape routine, reconnect as a family, and soak in the holiday vibes without even leaving the country. From soaring above the city on a cable car to racing down luge tracks, sipping coffee by the beach, and ending the night under a shower of lights and lasers, our Sentosa day was everything a holiday should be—fun, fuss-free and full of heart.
Cable car ride: A scenic start
We kicked things off with the Singapore Cable Car—arguably one of the most underrated ways to see the city. Floating 60 metres above ground from Mount Faber to Sentosa, the gondola offered us a peaceful, breezy start to the day. My daughter loved spotting landmarks below while we enjoyed a rare moment of quiet as the skyline opened up around us. It’s a simple ride, but somehow, it always feels like the beginning of an adventure.
As we glided into Sentosa, the mood was already lighter. No traffic, no to-do lists—just sky, sea, and that little spark of excitement that comes from seeing the world from above.
Skyline Luge: A ride everyone loves
From the station, we headed to Skyline Luge—possibly the most unanimously loved activity in our family. If you haven’t tried it yet, imagine steering a three-wheeled sled down a hillside track, wind in your face, surrounded by trees and sea views. You’re in full control, but it’s safe enough for younger kids (aged 6 and up or 110 cm tall) to ride with confidence.
We raced down multiple tracks, each with its own twists, tunnels, and jungle vibes. The best part? The Skyride chairlift back to the top gives you another dose of those glorious views, and a chance to catch your breath before doing it all over again. It’s thrilling, slightly addictive, and surprisingly wholesome as a shared family experience.
Lunch at Good Old Days: Flavour with a side of nostalgia
Lunchtime brought us to Good Old Days, a beachfront eatery near Siloso that serves up comforting Singaporean classics with a fresh twist. The vibe here is relaxed and unfussy—just what you want when dining with kids.
We dug into their SG60 menu by Chef Bob—aka Shahrizal Salleh available till December this year. We tried the Ginger Fish Horfun and Nasi Lemak Goreng, both of which struck the perfect balance between nostalgic flavours and modern presentation. There’s something deeply satisfying about a meal that reminds you of home but still feels special. Plus, the beachside breeze and shaded outdoor seating gave us a much-needed pause before diving into the rest of the day.
Luckin Coffee at iFly: A midday pick-me-up
After lunch, we wandered over to the iFly building—not to skydive, but to try the new Luckin Coffee outlet everyone’s been buzzing about. We ordered their signature Coconut & Jelly Latte and wow—what a treat. Light, refreshing, and just the right amount of indulgent, it’s the kind of coffee that feels like a drink and dessert in one.
My daughter slurped up the jelly bits while we cooled off inside. It’s moments like this—no rush, no itinerary pressure—where holidays really come to life.
Wings of Time: Ending our day at Sentosa with magic
As evening fell, we made our way to Wings of Time, Sentosa’s iconic outdoor night show. Set against the open sea, the performance blends water, light, fire, and storytelling into one dazzling spectacle.
From the moment the first jets of water shot into the air, my daughter were transfixed. Lasers danced across the sky, fireballs punctuated the music, and the tale of Shahbaz the bird of time unfolded in vibrant bursts. It’s dramatic, moving, and the perfect punctuation mark on a day spent making memories.
Final thoughts
By the time we walked back toward the beach tram, tired but happy, I realised how much you can experience in just one day—especially when you step out with curiosity and a bit of planning.
Sentosa may be just a bridge away, but it holds more adventure than most of us give it credit for. So if you’re looking to reclaim the magic of the June holidays without the stress of airport queues or packing lists, give your family the gift of a day out. Sometimes, the best memories are made right here at home.
