We experienced Korean Cuisine at its best! Stepping into The Butcher’s Dining for the exclusive K-Rice and Fruits Korean Culinary Masterclass was like being transported to the heart of Korea’s rich culinary heritage. The air was filled with the aroma of authentic ingredients, while the vibrant display of Shine Muscat grapes and premium Korean strawberries set the stage for an extraordinary gastronomic experience. Led by esteemed Chef Hyuna Kim, the event showcased how high-quality Korean rice and fruits can transform into exquisite dishes, offering an immersive journey into Korea’s finest agricultural treasures.

Organised by the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation (aT), the event was graced by distinguished guests, including Song Mi-Ryung, the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of South Korea, and Hong Jin-Wook, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Singapore. Their presence underscored Korea’s commitment to sharing its culinary excellence with Singaporean audiences and strengthening the appreciation for premium Korean produce.

Korean cuisine takes centre stage in Singapore

With a growing demand for high-quality international produce, aT continues to champion the excellence of Korean food in Singapore. This exclusive masterclass was part of a larger initiative to introduce consumers to the unique textures, flavours, and versatility of Korean rice and fruits. Since its establishment in 1967, aT has played a pivotal role in promoting Korean food products globally, using strategic events and brand partnerships to foster a deeper appreciation for Korea’s agricultural excellence.

The essence of Korean cuisine through amazing flavour

Korean cuisine is renowned for its bold flavours, nutritious ingredients, and time-honoured culinary traditions. A key highlight of this masterclass was the emphasis on fermented foods such as kimchi and doenjang (soybean paste), which are rich in probiotics that support gut health and digestion.

Korean rice, celebrated for its chewy texture and nutritional benefits, has become a staple in Singapore’s culinary landscape. Naturally gluten-free and packed with essential nutrients, it forms the foundation of many beloved dishes, from bibimbap to tteokbokki. According to The Business Research Company, the functional foods market is expected to grow from $281.3 billion in 2024 to $315.1 billion in 2025, reflecting a strong global shift towards healthier food choices.

Beyond grains, Korean fruits such as Shine Muscat grapes and premium strawberries have gained international recognition for their exceptional sweetness and quality. These fruits are not only delicious but also packed with antioxidants and vitamin C, making them a sought-after ingredient in both savoury and dessert dishes.

A showcase of premium K-food products

The event also featured an impressive display of Korea’s top food exports, including rice-based products, traditional liquors, and fresh produce. A highlight was the introduction of 12 traditional Korean liquors, many of which were making their debut in Singapore. Crafted with unique ingredients such as plum, lingzhi, pine, and yuzu, these beverages offered a taste of Korea’s diverse brewing traditions.

Attendees also got to experience rice-based delicacies like porridge, tteokbokki, and rice cakes, as well as Baba Gimbap—an innovative product that gained popularity in U.S. retail stores in 2023. The fresh produce section, featuring premium Korean rice, strawberries, and Shine Muscat grapes, added a vibrant touch to the culinary showcase.

Culinary highlights: Live cooking demonstration

The masterclass reached its peak with a live cooking demonstration by renowned culinary instructor Chef Hyuna Kim. Attendees had the opportunity to learn the techniques behind four signature Korean dishes:

Guests also had the chance to pair these dishes with traditional Korean wines, further deepening their appreciation for the complexity and depth of Korean cuisine.

Celebrating 50 years of Korea-Singapore relations through food

Reflecting on the event, Song Mi-Ryung, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of South Korea, shared, “As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Singapore, we are honoured to showcase the best of Korean cuisine here. We have carefully curated special dishes featuring premium Korean rice, fresh strawberries, and Shine Muscat grapes, all grown in Korea’s distinct four seasons, paired with traditional liquors. Our hope is that more people in Singapore will come to appreciate these exceptional ingredients and the culinary heritage they represent.”
