Nestled in the lush greenery of Sentosa Island, Amara Sanctuary Sentosa has always been a haven of tranquility. Now, with its refreshed interiors by the talented team at FARM, this heritage resort has embraced nature’s splendour like never before. If you’re looking for a serene getaway that seamlessly blends modern comfort with the natural world, this is the place to be.

Amara Hotels and Resorts’ recent transformation of its Sentosa property is a masterclass in biophilic design. Collaborating with the architectural atelier FARM, renowned for their holistic approach to spatial design, the resort now features interiors that celebrate and harmonize with its surroundings. The redesign pays tribute to Sentosa’s rich maritime history and the estate’s century-long legacy by incorporating natural materials like indigenous stone, venerable timber, and upcycled wood from traditional fishing vessels.

Tranquil spaces for modern travellers

The resort’s new look isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about creating a space that feels alive and inviting. Imagine walking into the resplendent lobby, greeted by the soft, natural light filtering through an ethereal skylight, casting a mesmerising play of shadows. At the heart of the lobby stands a majestic four-metre Pithecellobium Confertum ‘Everfresh Tree’ surrounded by Davallia Fejeensis shrub. This living centerpiece is more than just a plant; it’s a reminder of nature’s quiet splendour, a theme that resonates throughout the resort.

“The redesign reaffirms our commitment to preserving our heritage while revitalizing it for future generations,” shares Dawn Teo, Chief Operating Officer of Amara Holdings Limited. “In today’s fast-paced world, where many seek tranquility and rejuvenation, our refreshed design approach resonates with travellers seeking solace in nature. We aim to offer more than just accommodation; we provide an immersive experience that nourishes the soul and renews the spirit.”

Elegant living spaces and culinary delights at Amara Sanctuary Sentosa

The biophilic design ethos extends to the resort’s Villas and Suites, creating an ambiance of refined nature-inspired serenity. The new design fosters a fluid transition between outdoor and indoor spaces, with lush planters, daybeds, hammocks, and bar tables enhancing the outdoor courtyards and foyers. Rooms are awash in sand-inspired hues, evoking coastal calmness, complemented by organic materials such as rattan, timber, and sisal. For multi-generational families, the Verandah Studios and Suites now feature dual-key apartments with kitchenettes, perfect for extended stays.

A standout feature of the redesign is the all-new Sanctuary Tearoom. This minimalist yet inviting 146-seater restaurant transforms to suit any occasion, from a hearty breakfast buffet to private functions. Earth-toned furnishings, handwoven rattan lanterns, and towering greens create a naturalistic charm, while floor-to-ceiling windows provide stunning views of the picturesque lawn. The patio area, with plush settees, overlooks a captivating water feature, making it the ideal spot for a relaxed afternoon or a memorable wedding.

Selwyn Low, Director of FARM, expresses their excitement about the project: “The estate, with its sprawling landscape and colonial architecture, presented endless possibilities. We wished to celebrate its captivating features while creating fresh opportunities for guests to rediscover the heritage building and its surroundings. Consequently, we opted to activate various pockets of space for guests to enjoy, highlighting the lush greenery and architectural charm.”

Completed in just five months, the Amara Sanctuary Sentosa’s redesign officially launched on 24 May 2024. To celebrate, the resort is offering a special ‘Sanctuary Escapade’ package, which includes 20% off best available rates on suites and villas, daily breakfast for two, afternoon tea set for two, and S$100 dining credit per stay at the Sanctuary Tearoom.
