Romanticising the poor and using the stories of the underprivileged is the new liberalism in India. Every left media’s home page looks the same.
From Dalits to migrants and Muslims– I feel bad for each and every community because their stories are just being converted into clickbait articles to generate traffic. Their struggles have been reduced to keywords and hashtags.
The Government of India has failed us– not once, not twice but multiple times– I agree 100%. The Government has been failing us for the past 70 years, irrespective of what colour they endorse– green or saffron.
As the fourth pillar of democracy (which feels like a joke now), isn’t it the media’s responsibility to just share stories and report facts? And, as for the rest of us, the day we learn to understand the religion behind politics and the politics behind religion, we will be a much better nation.
A pregnant elephant dies and it takes the internet half a day to identify the religion of it all– half say it was a Muslim belt area and half say it was a Hindu belt area. My point is who cares? What happened was inhuman– why are we assigning religion to someone who barely deserves to be called human?
A girl is raped, and all we can pay heed to is if her name was Asifa or Sita– we all should be ashamed of ourselves.
I also feel that by denying stories the liberty to be viewed just as stories, irrespective of the title of the person involved, we are not being fair. For example, I grew up as a so-called “upper caste” in my hometown in Bihar. Then, I found myself living for ten years in Delhi where “Bihari” is used as a slang for anyone who is considered not modern enough or as they call it ganwaar. And the funniest part is that many of my former college mates and co-workers who are now suddenly the wokest people working at leftist media houses have used slangs like “Bihari” and “Chinki” behind closed doors a number of times.
The point of this rant is that bring in religion, caste, skin colour or community ONLY if the story needs it– like if the person was harmed or denied an opportunity because of that. That narrative needs to be shared and heard but not everything is about racial discrimination.
And, for someone claiming to be so woke 24 by 7 round-the-year, the left media uses words like “Dalit” way too much. Can we stop that?
