In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8, L’Oréal Singapore is teaming up with local charity Image Mission Ltd, which manages Dress for Success Singapore (DFSS), to empower women from all walks of life who struggle with self-esteem and self-worth, particularly those who face fear and anxiety when looking to return to the workforce after a period of unemployment.

L’Oréal Singapore and DFSS join hands on the #LessonsOfWorth campaign in Singapore, which aims to inspire honest conversations among women about finding their inner confidence or worth through videos depicting women sharing their personal struggles and how they overcame them. Sharing the common vision that women are worthy of opportunities to build better lives, L’Oréal Singapore and DFSS showcase their solidarity with marginalised women through a personal development workshop and a donation campaign that increases low-income women’s access to economic advancement.

Faced with unique barriers such as managing household responsibilities, low wages and biases in employment, disadvantaged women in Singapore would mostly be limited to part-time work, reducing their income and stifling their opportunities for career advancement. Fear and anxiety are also common barriers to women looking to return to the workforce after a period of unemployment, riddled with insecurities stemming from age, self-doubt, and employer bias directed at career gaps.

As part of L’Oréal’s #LessonsOfWorth campaign, L’Oréal Singapore and DFSS are hosting a personal development workshop this month where women can gain insights and tools that will help them advance in their careers and improve their leadership abilities. During this workshop, L’Oréal Singapore aims to provide fresh perspectives in areas such as job search and career-building to help women realise their potential by envisioning a suitable career trajectory and walking away with a clear plan of action to move forward.

L’Oréal Singapore is also a proud ‘Pledge Partner’ for DFSS’ International Women’s Day campaign, Your Hour, Her Power® (YHHP), inspired by the belief that when a woman has access to opportunities that can change her life, she becomes powerful beyond measure.

Your Hour, Her Power® (YHHP) encourages workplace giving and asks for donations equivalent to an hour of one’s pay, which gives a Dress for Success Singapore woman access to programmes, services, and tools to help them achieve economic advancement. Interested donors can do so at www.giving.sg/imagemission/yourhourherpower_2022.

Mr. Jaren Ong, Marketing Manager, L’Oréal Paris, said, “We are pleased to join hands with Dress for Success Singapore in their long-term commitment to empower women in overcoming their odds to achieve economic independence. Our partnership not only aims to help women by providing mentorship, but also encourages them to recognise their worth through defining their own successes instead of comparing themselves with others. L’Oréal champions women’s empowerment and celebrates women, their beauty, strength, and resilience. We hope that this collaboration will help us deliver a stronger message about lessons of worth from women of all walks of life and the importance of self-esteem to women in Singapore and around the world.”

To further encourage support around the community of women in Singapore, L’Oréal Singapore will also provide 130 curated care kits filled with haircare, skincare and makeup products to DFSS’ clients, partners and volunteers.

Elizabeth Chew, Chair, Image Mission, which manages Dress for Success Singapore said, “We are delighted to partner with L’Oréal Singapore this year for our International Women’s Day campaign and workshops. L’Oréal is a brand that has a proud history of uplifting women, which is directly aligned with Dress for Success Singapore’s mission to empower disadvantaged women through a network of tools and resources including coaching and styling services.

In the past year, we have seen women continue to face innumerable challenges. Women have left the workplace at an alarming rate and those that have remained struggle with significant issues with balancing childcare and housework, increased workloads and loss of confidence.

Through this partnership, we hope to empower more women to achieve economic independence and to equip every woman with confidence that she carries forever, along with the knowledge that she can actively define her life, the direction she takes and what success means to her.”
