Whatashort Independent International Film Festival 2018 concluded at a high note after an eventful gala earlier this week. This 3-day short film festival was a treat for filmmakers, artists and art lovers. From cinema to poetry and discussions to comedy – the festival did not lack a single element to entertain the national capital. Filmmakers from different parts of the country and the world gathered together to celebrate creativity during the festival.
A total of six films, including “Kaaji” by Aishani Shetty, “Dreams” by Athithya, “Palayan” by Manvi Duggal (Best Film – Student), “The Visit” by Ashay Vyas (Best Film Fiction), “Understanding Moksha” by D Sameer Kumar and “Anandha Yaz” by B. Sivakumar were screened on 15th July – the last day of WIIFF 2018. While people enjoyed all short films, they were particularly moved by the emotional narrative “Anandha Yaz”. After the screening, following lunch , audiences were treated to an extraordinary set of performances by some of the best artists of The Social House. Artists who went viral on TSH YouTube channel were seen performing live during the event.
The fun did not stop here. Audiences were pleasantly surprised to a beautiful performance by none other than Mr. Ravie Solanky, aka Kahaaniwala. Mr. Solanky paid homage to the iconic ghazal singer and composer Late Jagjit Singh Ji with a beautiful poetry recital. It is needless to say that Mr. Solanky has a soft place for art and he has been doing his bit to paint Delhi in art with Whatashort and The Social House. Watching him perform during WIIFF 2018 was a treat for all.
Further in the gala, people witnessed a landmark event. The prototype of The Social House’s mobile app was launched. The app becomes publicly available 15th August on wards. This is a milestone achievement for Team Whatashort – to be able to reach such heights in less than a year is simply commendable.Â
The day concluded with an award ceremony where Whatashort presented partners and associates with mementos. In addition the Best film on Women went to “Women of Varanasi”, “Maharajin” by Darpan Bajaj won in the Best Short Film Documentary category and “Dreams” won for Best Story. Special awards were presented to Nikhil Vijay for Whatashort Most Promising Actor and The Timeliners for Whatashort Best in Digital Entertainment.
In the end, the team signed off with a promise to be back with a bang next year with #WIIFF2019.
